Independent Living Program
Advocates of Alvord-Taylor, Inc.'s Independent Living Program work cooperatively with developmentally disabled adults who live independently in the community. Services are tailored to meet individual's particular needs and abililities while respecting and accommodating their lifestyles.
Independent Living Program Advocates offer support and/or training in the following areas:
• Budgeting money for rent, utilities, activities, and spending.
• Assisting with visits to the doctor and the dentist.
• Help with following medication orders.
• Household maintenance & upkeep.
• Assistance in maintaining good hygiene.
• Learning safety skills at home and in the community.
• Food shopping and mean planning.
• Coordinating safe and affordable housing.
• Training and support accessing other social service agencies.
• Assist with paperwork from state and social service agencies.
• Support in establishing and maintaining entitlements.
• Training in using transportation services.
• Assistance with social activities.
• Support in building social relationships.
• Coordinating crisis support and counseling services.
• Access to Alvord-Taylor's 24-hour emergency support.
• Assistance with becoming part of the community. |
